The Big O signed books at Indianapolis Market Square Arena June 19, 2024 as the boys and girls Indiana and Kentucky High School All-Stars met in the opener of their two-game series. Robertson was Indianas "Mr. Basketball" in 1956 when the Indiana All-stars swept the Kentuckians. Oscar Robertson joined emcee Bill Cosby and stars of the Boston Celtics and other NBA teams of the 50s and 60s as the Celtics re-retired Bill Russells "No. 6" at Fleet Center on May 25, 1999. ESPN cable sports network named Oscar Robertson one of its 50 greatest athletes of the century as part of its "Sports Century" series, which aired throughout 1999. The National Fathers Day Committee named Oscar Robertson a 1999 "Father of the Year" on May 13, 1999, along with U.S. Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen, Bloomingdales Chairman/CEO Michael Gould, St. Johns University basketball coach Mike Jarvis, New York State controller Carl McCall, and Mark McEwen of CBS "The Early Show." A new NBA record: When the NBA launched "The Art of Basketball" with an autograph session by The Big O on May 12, 1999, they set a new single-day book sales record with 242 copies gobbled up in two hours. In December, 1999, another Big O signing sold an additional 135 copies. In February 1999, Oscar Robertson received the Ohio Governors Award along with astronaut and retired U.S. Senator John Glenn and former Cincinnati Enquirer publisher William Keating.
